According to Miroshnikov's determination key (2017) and locality, this species is finally Zatrephus javanicus Fisher, 1936. |

This species is not uncommon in Northern Borneo and it frequently has the pubescence rubbed off, similarly to the images of the specimens in MNHN, and possibly also like Pascoe's type specimen which show extra dark "spots" which are actually areas where the pubescence was rubbed off.
I have uploaded a photo of M/F which are in better condition. Z. pannosus is only recorded from Borneo, although I have it from Sumatra, too. |

Zatrephus pannosus Pascoe, 1857: Pl. XXIII. fig. 3.
J'ajoute la Fig. 3 que tu as mentionnée.
Il est très semblable, mais je ne suis pas sûr qu'il soit le même... |

I think you are right dryobius. I've found this description on Wallace online (?) :
"Zatrephus pannosus (Pl. XXIII. fig. 3.)
Z. brunneus; prothorace rugoso fulvo-lanuginoso; elytris elongatis, pilis fulvo-albidis densissime tectis. Borneo.
Brown; head with a deep groove between the eyes; prothorax very rough, with indeterminate striæ and tubercles, and here and there with little patches of fulvous woolly hairs; elytra densely covered with pale brownish white appressed hairs, except a naked glossy spot near the apex of each; antennæ everywhere covered with short fulvous hairs; legs and under surface with pale brown hairs. Length 14 lines."

This is a Zatrephus (enlarged antennomeres III-V)
I don't know Javan fauna well, but this one is similar to Z. pannosus of Borneo. It is not any of the other species recorded from Borneo.
There is Z. javanicus Fisher 1936, too.
I have not looked at the paper and do not have it available now. But, that is a possibility. |
