Left : Aeolesthes aurifaber (White, 1853) female from East Kalimantan, 36 mm
Right : Aeolesthes salomeae Jacquot, 2019 female from East Kalimantan, 45 mm.
Aeolesthes salomeae has shorter antennae, strongly transverse pronotum (L/l = 0,75-0,8) with a median smooth area, coarsely and densely punctuated gula with a deep groove as wide as the gula. |

This week I thought this species looked a lot like Massirachys mariae!
But you are right Francesco, the pronotum is as transverse as my specimen, the spines at the apex of the femora are identical to salomeae with a blunt tip, and as you write, the pronotal flat area is the same. |

The shape of the discal smooth field reminds me of Trirachys achilles (here the type male).
Anybody has got the female of this species? |

M. mariae has thiner and shorter antennae; the pronotum is similar in size without smooth area and with shallower wrinkles; temples are longer, ...They are really 2 different species but with a very similar body and livery!
Now could someone sending the male of A. salomeae, please! |

Hi Dan,
You are right, I had the same feeling.
A. salomeae has the femoral teeth less acute than others Aeolesthes, the size of its pronotum (L/l = 0.79) is close to that of M. mariae (0.85) but its temples are short, the wrinkles on the pronotum are more pronounced than M. mariae with a distinct smooth area. The size of A. salomeae is comparable with A. gloriosa (47mm long female in my collection).
A. salomeae maybe a beginning of transition form between the 2 genus ?
It would be interesting to compare it with a female of M. mariae... |

This species is similar to Massirachys mariae, particularly by the large size. |
