This is Promeces longipes (Olivier, 1795), the only member of the genus occurring in South Africa. Extremely variable in size and colour from uniformly cobalt blue, blue green and violet, or elytra can be bicoloured grass green, golden green/iridescent purplish etc. This variation has given rise to a big number of forms being described (aurolimbatus Tippm., velox Fåhr., auratus Pascoe, purpuratus White etc.), but there seems to be general accord they all belong to the same species.
