Posted - 20/06/2023 : 04:22:39 I've been busy and didn't have time to respond to this post. I have two specimens from Sabah which are extremely good matches against the holotype image of X. gestroi laosensis!!
My specimens match most of the colors.. yellow and black elytra and pronotum with the base of the elytra reddish brown. Only my specimens have the first 5 antennomeres dark and tibiae darker than the holotype's image. Larry's image may not have true color, as there is no yellow but grayish instead.
I have seen an enormous number of Clytini from Borneo in the last 25 years. I have only seen 2 of these which Dauber ID'd as X. gestroi. Despite the geographic obstacles involved, I am quite sure my specimens are too close to X. gestroi to be called something else.
Makihara et al 2005 published a paper with an image of a species that he called X. pulcher(=pulchra), a species from Java. It's difficult to say if Larry's specimen could be X. pulcher. |

Posted - 04/06/2023 : 15:45:45 This specimen do not fit with Gahan's drawing of Xylotrechus gestroi Gahan, 1894 from Myanmar (I do not know the holotype), neither with HT picture of Xylotrechus gestroi laosensis Gressitt & Rondon, 1970. Anyway Sabah-Laos/Myanmar, at least 1500 km and a very different fauna. Dauber must have made a mistake.

Posted - 03/06/2023 : 16:45:51 No, Xylotrechus gestroi Gahan, 1894 is a species from Myanmar and Laos; it should be something else, may be Xylotrechus pulcher Aurivillius, 1911 ? |
