May I come back to this topic with a similar specimen. It comes from the same central area of Viet Nam: Quang Nam province, Tay Giang, Axan Mt., 1300 m, may 2017. Same measurements than the beetle shown by Dooseok Yi.
My specimen is showing identical features though in slightly reduced way. Pronotum with darkened base and apex, and two discal spots, elytra basally dark, as well as the scutellum. The spots on elytral disks are of the same type. Apex of each elytron narrowly dark.
Gresst & Rondon's photo despite of it's poor quality seems to fit well.
The problem remains concerning description by Gahan, especially his mention about the spines on the apex of elytra. I never have seen any Zoodes having spines of such a kind. Somewhat angulate or truncate, yes. But toothed or with a spine... |

As I can see, I agree with it is a Zoodes quadridentatus.

Here a picture from Laos fauna (Gressitt & Rondon, 1970) called Zoodes quadridentatus Gahan, 1906. In this book, author wrote " India, Laos ".
For Titan database, Z.quadridentatus is only mentioned from south India, (and nothing about Laos).
Your specimen from Vietnam is the same, but is it a true Zoodes quadridentatus Gahan ? |
