-. Eyes entire; if divided divided, their lobes close; head reclining; intecoxal process larger; mesosternum anteriorly rounded, rarely truncate; body generally elongated, antennae longer and fine (Worldwide) ... Saperdini (click on Gallery or on Forum for images)
Note. Some very ancient authors recognised inside Saperdini three further tribes:
Gleneini: characterised by elytra with an humeral ridge Phytoecini: characterised by hooked claws Obereini: characterised by elongated body.
Such tribes are completely meaningless since:
- Saperda tridentata, Eutetrapha, Pareutetrapha, Paramenesia have an humeral ridge, but are ranked among Saperdini
- Glenea, Gleneonupserha, Nupserha have hooked claws but are ranked among Gleneini ;
- Stenostola, Neoserixia, Paraserixia have hooked claws but are ranked among Saperdini . Moreover, Heteroglenea (Gleneini?) has protarsi with hooked claws and metatarsi with normal claws.
- The elongate body is a relative concept: the taxonomic position of Obereopsis, Chlorisanis, having intermediate shape, is overlooked by those authors
