I found this very peculiar damage in a dead tree (a maple?) in a Budapest park. There is no scale in the photo, but the size of the oval part in the centre is someything like 20 to 15 cm. So, the cerambycid(?) should be really big. Can anyone tell which species produces such a thorough oval damage under the bark before boring into the wood?
