I noticed besides Petrognatha gigas there also exists the subspecies gigas spinosa, what is the difference between the two?

According to the description, the variety spinosa Kolbe, 1894 is carachterised by the elytra provided with spines missing in the typical form.
Afterwards the original description:

I do not know if this form is typical of Cameroon or can be also found somewhere else. However, Aurivillius (1921) (pag. 206) quoted this form from Congo and Fernando Po too.
