This was photographed at Danum Valley Research Centre (Sabah). I know it is a Gnoma species, but am not sure which one. |

Posted - 19/10/2010 : 15:00:11 Thank you. You highlighted the two species that I was muddled up about, and suggested the one one thought most likely. I will state G. subfactiata with a ? after, just in case. |

Posted - 19/10/2010 : 09:06:44 Exact: a male of Gnoma. There are two species in Borneo with a pattern like that: G. confusa Thomson, 1865 and G. subfasciata Thomson, 1865. The former is characterised by eyes much longer than cheeks and the latter by eyes a bit longer than cheeks... According to some authors, the former species should be a synonym of G. longicollis (Fabricius, 1787). Nonetheless, such species has been described from India, so, I am not sure about this synonymy. However, the latter species (subfasciata) is also characterised by yellow pubescence denser on the apical third, so I think this is just the right ID. This is the female of the same species. |
