I think Gerard's one is individual variety.

This is standard pattern of my West Malaysian specimens.

Hello this beast of Malaysia has a much less extensive apical spot.

Breuning's treatment of this genus is very disturbing. He incorrectly synonymized T. coeruleipennis with T. nigripennis which is currently being corrected (in press) by Holzschuh.
It seems doubtful to me that nigroapicalis is just a morph of T. pasteuri.
T. pasteuri has apical third of elytra bluish, not apical 6th black !
I have specimens of the same kind as illustrated here from Sumatra and West Malaysia. I am going to ask the Leiden Museum for an image of the type of T. pasteuri to maybe resolve this.
I'm not sure if this beetle has a valid name yet.

Thus it should be a morph of Thermonotus pasteuri Ritsema, 1890, the species present in the gallery.
Do you see differences?

Hallo,

maybe it's this sps, Thermonotus nigroapicalis described by Breuning as a morphe, I post the HT from the FREY collection.

greetings
Andreas

Its from Ole Mehl's collection, in case you want to have more details about it.

Robert, I haven't seen this species from Sabah or Borneo before. it's probably a Thermonotus.
