Posted - 12/10/2013 : 20:51:16 To my mind, my first picture matches the type image for Xenicotela distincta. Look at the scutellum pubescense.
I think the second picture may be Monochamus binigricollis. Attached is a picture of M. binigricollis from Laos that my friend Jim Cope took at the Bishop Museum.

Posted - 12/10/2013 : 19:20:19 I think you are right : the second picture is a different species (different shape of black spots, hairs on antennae, etc) Here the picture of Monochamus binigricollis Breuning, 1965 from the Laos Fauna (1970) :

Is this pic the same then? These are from Ba Be Vietnam, but the elytral punctures and pubescence are very different from the specimen from Chiang Mai
Is there a pic of Monochamus binigricollis?
