thanks Dan and Xavier, this only one spm was fogged from the tree canopy and stored in alcohol, but the toment is in good condition, the pronotum is uniform greyish pubescent as in the picture. |

It is not C. sexnotatus or javanicus, in my opinion.
In nearly 20 years of looking at Bornean material, I have not seen anything I would call C. ornatus (from Borneo), but it is possible.
Is there any, or was there any, white pubescence on the lateral sides of the pronotum. The specimen could be missing its pubescence, or perhaps was in alcohol??
C. sexmaculatus Aur. frequently has 4 maculae instead of 6. It is also one of the most common species in Borneo, and therefore I see a lot of variation in body size and the size of the maculae. C. sexmaculatus has distinct pubescence on the side of the pronotum which I can not see in this photo. The specimen in the photo looks small. Is it about 14-15mm? That is rather small for C. sexmaculatus, but not impossible.
If this was collected with other Cereopsius, it would help to know what they were, or what they looked like. It is sometimes extremely difficult to identify one specimen from a series of material. |

Effectivement Breuning a mis en synonymie ces 2 taxa décrits en 1936 à partir d'exemplaires provenant de Java.
Bien que Cereopsius javanicus semble connu de Bornéo, notre exemplaire ci-dessus diffère par ces (5-6) taches élytrales plus petites.
Peut-être, est-ce une variation ? |
