Nemophas nigriceps Vitali, 2013, female, Holotype
Indonesia, West Sulawesi, Mamasa, IV.2001, S. Alam lgt., coll. Vitali
Three other female paratypes from an unknown locality in Sulawesi are preserved in coll. Vitali.
This is another specimen present for a long time in the Web, (un)fortunately, misidentified as N. bicinctus. |

I came across an incredible claim by WALLIN, KVAMME, & NYLANDER (Revision of the genus Nemophas Thomson, 1864) concerning this species: Nemophas nigriceps appears to be a synonym of B. rosembergii ... and examination of the male is required.
To the benefit of these authors - who shoud have contact me before publishing - a male of this species did exists, though not in my collection (picture taken from eBay many years ago):

You can notice that both specimens show typical characters of nigripes:
- head black (yellow in rosembergii)
- pronotal base blackish brown (yellow in rosembergii)
- elytral base hairless (yellow in rosembergii)
- legs black (yellow in rosembergii)
- 2 apical spots on elytra (a band in rosembergii)
Tomorrow, I will post the entire typical series, now I insert two pictures of rosembergii (coll. V. Nagirnyi).

Nemophas bicinctus Lansberge, 1880, female
from Peleng I., off the south-eastern coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia.
The typical locality is Sula I. (Moluccas).
The species differs in:
- yellow pubescent head in bicinctus; hairless black in nigriceps
- pronotal base black in bicinctus; brown in nigriceps
- dull black elytral integuments in bicinctus; metallic greenish or bluish in nigriceps
- elytra with apical band in bicinctus; 2 apical spots in nigriceps
- bicolor ventral side in bicinctus entirely yellow in nigriceps
