very interesting observation!

below is a translation of Breunung's key to Epicedia as translated and given to me by Hudepohl...

The ONLY difference which is mentioned is the size of the premedian elytral maculae.

Thus, E. maculatrix and wrayi might be the same. I guess a lot more study is needed.


Genus Epicedia Thomson

1 Elytra with large, common, dark brown macula. Malaysia, Java, Borneo. trimaculata (Chevrolat)
- Elytra without dark, sutural macula 2

2 Postmedian dark macula of elytron scarcely twice as large as premedian macula. Malaysia. wrayi Waterhouse
- Postmedian macula more than four times as large as premedian. Java, Sumatra, Borneo maculatrix (Perty)

Dan, do you think that Epicedia wrayi Waterhouse, 1887 is also a synonym of this species?

I think they are the same.
Here is a specimen I have from Sabah which is intermediate to the specimens you show.
