Hi there.
Struggling with this specimen.
Is it either Taeniotes pulverulentus or Parataeniotes mimus?
Data: Male - 04-2012 - Atalaya - Ucayali - Peru 2 - 24mm

Thank you very much. I have inspected the pronotal spines on the specimen and can confirm that they are indeed nothing like Pseudotaeniotes mimus.

The lateral pronotal spine is shorter in Pseudotaeniotes mimus (D. & D.). Yours is probably T. pulverulentus which is a really common species. Photographs are difficult to use in this case.
You can see the short pronotal spine in the "mimus" holotype photo on Bezark's website. The images which you posted are too far away to see details of the pronotum.
Lastly, the works of Dillon are frequently confusing, and they described some species based on differences which most people consider to be individual variations.
I don't have a pdf of Dillon & Dillon 1943 but I probably have an old photocopy somewhere. |
