Thanks Andreas.
I have several specimens from Borneo which are a perfect match to the holotype of S. sumatrensis. This species is different from the one whose photograph was originally posted by Robert, but I agree they are in the same genus. I will try to get a photograph of the type of S. fuscomaculata Aur. Possibly, I have 5 species of this genus from Borneo, so now I have one of them identified.

Dear Beckey, dear Dan,

I can give you a picture (really not good) from the HT spms of Synixais sumatrensis Breuning, 1982 looks very similar to the posted right spms by Beckey.

greetings
Andreas

Well, I am just beginning to study the Pteropliini in Borneo ! What a difficult job.
The photo posted by Robert might be a female and the type photo is likely a male. So that would explain why the bodies of the two species are of different widths.
There are two Synixais species recorded from Borneo. I am going to try to get photos of the types. That may take some time.
I have possibly 2 or 3 species from Borneo. One is like Robert's photo. The others have similar features but with different maculation on the elytra. I will try to photograph them, but I usually ask a friend to take good pictures for me.

No, I haven't, Dan.
I know that my study is nothing like as good as yours.
Moreover, I sometimes make a mistake like others do.
In this case, after comparing with the photo and my specimen, I identified it with Synixais owing to my restricted experience.

Have you seen it in a museum? Why do you think it is in that genus?
Beckey Posted - 04/02/2013 : 14:41:04
I think it is Synixais.

Ok, Pteropliini. I have no idea of this genus. There are 1 or 2 similar species also!! I have been looking for a name for this one for over 10 years. I think I showed one to Holzschuh in 2010 and he didn't recognize it.
