A rather widespread species in Crete is Agapanthia (Epoptes) cynarae michaeli Sláma, 1986.
Here a (bad ) picture taken on the beach of Frangokastello (Southern Crete, Chania), glorious Italian castle built by the Venetians in 1371-74 in order to defend Crete against pirates. The beetle defend itself by hiding among the spines in shadow parts of its host. When discovered, it turns around the stem... very difficult to photograph.
