Posted - 16/03/2016 : 12:00:28 Yes, it's true that it could be observed some gap on antenal lenght on this tribe but it remains coherent on several specimens of the same species. see here: both specimens are of the same size (and same species) but antenal lenght is quite different.. It's what we must rely on several criteria for identification (or determination). |

Thank you, Claude. The length of antennae in the nominative subspecies of Ae. sinicum from the Far East Russia varies. Length of the males antennae depends on the specimen size. Larger males have shorter antennae. For example - image of 53 mm male from foothills of Siny Ridge (SW Sikhote-Alin Mts.) caught on 11.VII.2015 near Spassk-Dalny. |

Here is a picture showing sinicum validicorne (left), sinicum nom. (center) and sinicum legrandi (right). As you can see, antenal lenght is different between all species and particularly short for validicorne with last antenal joints which could be partially merged (9-10 or 10-11). The elytral costae are also more protruding on validicorne. |
