Posted - 02/10/2012 : 10:27:59 Following my suspect, Santos-Silva & Lingafelter have recently published a paper (2012, Papéis Avulsos de Zoologia 52/27: 315-332), restating this species in the genus Xixuthrus. |

Your species is a male of Xixuthrus domingoensis Fisher, 1932, whose type (above) is preserved in the USNM Washington. As you can notice, this longhorn has been originally described as belonging to an Indo-Australian genus. More recently, it has been transferred to the South-American genus Mecosarthron, of which you can see another species in the Gallery. Frankly speaking, I'm not completely sure about this taxonomic change… |
