Crete, Chania, Falasarna, 21.V.2013, at light
2 males, both measuring 23 mm

The Cretan Prionus-species was described as Prionus batelkai Sláma, 1996.
Later, this species has been synonymised with Prionus (Mesoprionus) besikanus Fairmaire, 1855, a widespread species.

Some European authors consider Mesoprionus Jakovlev, 1887 as a true genus, but I do not see the reason, considering the fact that all American Prionus are still divided in subgenera... and they are much more different from P. coriarius!
