Posted - 24/01/2021 : 06:43:54 All friendi lectotypes deposited in Paris, are from Colombia, while superbus lectotypes are from Peru, panama and Ecuador. The specimens from costa Rica should be related to panama specimens. May be superbus. It would be more clear if I can see the horns beneath the mandibles. Colors are not the matters. |

Posted - 02/03/2014 : 13:39:35 P. modestus and P. superbus are both known from Costa Rica. P. superbus are generally very dark metallic... not blue or reddish. The photos are clearly P. friendi. Santos-Silva has one unknown female from Costa Rica (was in my collection) collected by an acquaintance that lived there in the early 1980's. In the 1970's and 1980's, there were enormous quantities of P. friendi collected in Colombia and sold by one or two dealers. Some of these may have been mis-labeled. |
