It is a male of Analophus parallelus Waterhouse, 1877.
The genus is a clear link between Mallodontini and Parandrini through genera as Eurynassa and Archetypus, as Lameere (1903, p. 2 and foll.) correctly deemed, though he inverted the polarity of the evolution. In fact, he considered Parandrini as the most primitive group and Macrotomini as the evolved one, while in reality the wing structure proves that Parandra is a very specialised genus.
Currently Analophus belongs to Macrotomini (subtribe Cnemoplitina) but it has really nothing to do with Macrotoma!
This subtribe will be separated, as some European authors have already done with Mallodontini and Rhaphipodini, in spite of what some solipsist American authors think. |
