Callichromatini, genus Dictator;
I do not know much things about this enigmatic genus and as good as no documents seem to exist. But the beetle is splendid.
Togo West (border area to Ghana), Badou env., October 2010.
43 mm.
Francesco, can you help with the species name? |

Dear Pierre, Schmidt (1922) did not carefully study this genus, renouncing to furnish a key but providing all descriptions.
I have the descriptions of all species and the pictures of some types (thank to Robert Perger).
Nonetheless, it seems that some old authors did not correctly identify males and females of the same species. Moreover, the variability of the characters (nearly uniquely the colour) is unclear.
If your beetle were a male, it would correspond to Dictator postulatus Thomson, 1878 (West Africa). Unfortunately, according to the author, the female should have an entirely yellow head and prothorax, a character instead corresponding to D. falkensteini Quedenfeldt, 1883 from Angola... |

| J'attendais la sortie officielle de l'article avant de le faire, ce qui semble être le cas maintenant (je n'ai pas encore reçu le cahier), j'ajouterai donc les photos des types dans la section correspondante. |
