Hello!
I am from Greece and I have two answers about the species Niphona picticornis.
The adults feed in the wood or only the larvae? The larvae feed only with dead wood?
Thank you in advance!

Hallo and welcome in the Forum!
An interesting question; unfortunately, most entomologists are interested in taxonomic or systematic problems and the biology is considered in function of collecting further specimens. Consequently, problems like that are rarely solved.
According to the literature, larvae of Niphona picticornis feeds both dead and dying woods.
Concerning the other topic, many authors state that this beetle hibernate as adults. This means that adults have fat reserves that allow to survive during the winter. Cerambycids with reserves like that can survive until such reserves finish (e.g. Hesperophanini) or integrate them with food (e.g. Cerambyx).
I do not know the answer, at the present, no observation has been done; maybe you can discover it

Hello,
The best way to find this species is to break, in winter, branches died from fig tree, from 1 to 3 cms in diameter (in Mediterranean zone). You will find easily the adults there.
