Je dirais plutôt une Obereopsis comme celle-ci... |

Merci Francesco on va en rester à Obereopsis, 202 espèces ce n'est pas gagner. |

Another specimen of a funny carrot colour, the same or very similar species from Uganda.
I am now looking for the Breuning's revision of this genus.
Francesco can kindly split the ad, if it appears to be a different species. |

It seems like Francesco has success with African Obereopsis. So, I am lifting this one up, as it has sunk to deep. |

Avec celle-ci j'arrive à encore Obereopsis variipes Chevrolat, 1858. C'est une espèce très variable.
Then, I check the other one, which is evidently another species. Which is the colour of the ventral side? |

It is doubtful that this is a different species. Ventral side is almost completely black, although the edges of last sternites are yellowish in this specimen. In fact, I prepared 10 specimens of the lot. The colour of the sernite hind edge, femora and various antennomeres seem to vary to a large extent. There are transition forms. A darker form is shown below.

This could be Obereopsis obscuritarsis ugandicola Aurivillius, 1926.
O. obscuritarsis and O. variipes are very variable species. Breuning proposed a combination of colours and localities, but the true character seems to be the obliquely truncated elytral apex: simple (obscuritarsis) or armed with a minute spine (variipes). |

Indeed, none of my specimens have such a long conical spine. But in fact, each has a shorter or longer tooth which vary in shape.

I am showing here just one, which resembles Obereopsis variipes more than other. Unfortunately, the coloration depends on illumination. So, looks like big series and exact locality are needed to reliably distinguish these species. I'll stay then with Obereopsis obscuritarsis ugandicola Aurivillius, 1926. |
