I show here 4 African Neoplocaederus, identification possible? This first one comes from Cameroon, 27 mm. Disc of pronotum totally smooth. |

mmm, unfortunately, no, it isn't. This is one of those images that have confused a lot of entomologists concerning the identification of the species of this genus. The species with smooth pronotum are two: Neoplocaederus glabricollis (Hope, 1843) and N. nitidipennis (Chevrolat, 1858). You can read the description of the former here (p. 367) and that of the latter here (p. 50). Chevrolat did not notice the former species, which however has the pronotum laterally wrinkled and the legs darker. Hence, this specimens should be N. nitidipennis (Chevrolat, 1858), a picture of which is also present in the gallery here.
N. viridipennis (Hope, 1843), of which you can read the original description before that of glabricollis belongs to those species with wrinkled pronotum ("thorace rugis transversis obsito"). |

Neoplocaederus glabricollis (Hope, 1843) d'après la révision de Juhel. Les deux espèces sont synonymes.
