This beetle was sent to me with label Calybistum sp.
There is only one Calybistum species in BioLib, Calybistum lugubre (Olivier, 1790), but the drawing placed there seems different from my beetle (head, pronotum, elytra with elevated lines and fine punctation in my specimen).
May it be the same species? |

No, it belongs to that group of Xystrocerini with an apical ridge on the scape.
If eyes are entire, it should belong to Parauxesis Aurivillius, 1915.
There are three species, but none is recorded from Togo.
By considering its distribution, it might be P. cicatricosa Aurivillius, 1915 or P. machadoi Lepesme, 1953: I have to have a look at the descriptions. |

Thank you, Francesco. So, the doubt was reasonable.
Yes, there is a clear apical ridge on the scape. And yes, the eyes are entire, though deeply cut out around the base of antennae. |
