A female specimen from Paraguay, 43 mm. I don't think that this one is a Stenodontes. Its pronotum is different by its strong deep punctures which cover almost the entire surface. |

Exactly! and, if you observe the scape, it is long and feebly bowed: this is the typical character of Rhaphipodini. In fact, it is a female of Mallodonopsis mexicanus Thomson, 1860. We have the male in the Gallery here and you can observe other specimens (among which two females) here. This species is widespread from Mexico to Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador; hence, it seems to be new for Paraguay. |

Thank you for this very rapid identification. By the way, I already have noticed that specimen belonging to the Rhaphipodini-tribe often are integrated into Macrotomini... |

Yes... American peoples are often chauvinist regarding papers of European authors ... Mallodontini are also often included in Macrotomini for those peoples; nonetheless, if you read Villiers and all authors writing about the African Fauna, Macrotomini and Mallodontini are well split tribes. |
