Is this Monochamus (Ethiopiochamus) ruspator (Fabricius, 1781)?
The pattern is very close to that in Gerard's beetle, but this one has less reddish brown colour. Maybe this is the question of colour balance.

There was a mistake in the reference to Gerard's beetle. It should be correct now.

Based on the paper by Dillon & Dillon 1961 it follows that my beetle and that of Gerard cited above are Monochamus (Ethiopiochamus) ruspator (Fabricius, 1781) indeed. The beetle shown in the Gallery corresponds well to M. (Ethiopiochamus) nubifer Gyllenhal, 1817, but the latter seems to be a synonym of the former.

To explain the conclusion I am showing below a few relevant paragraphs from the above-cited paper. Please pay attention to the description of ochraceous and white pubescence.

The key:

M. ruspator:

80.74 KB

M. nubifer:

Stange,...I see on your specimen "the X-shaped area of whitish pubescence" (from M.nubifer' description) and "Elytra with humeri irregularly ochraceous pubescent,..." from M.ruspator's description
