Bonjour, Je vais ajouter ce weekend environ 70 nouvelles photographies de types prises cette semaine au MNHN-Paris.
I will add this weekend about 70 new pictures of holotypes from MNHN-Paris.

My photos are not very good (too much light in Paris this week!, and I have not understood how to correct that with my poor camera), but if only one picture is useful... |

Hi Xavier, Thank you for posting the holotype photos.
It is quite interesting to see the Astathini, and one can not argue that they are one of many very difficult groups to identify.
My main interest (for now) is just Bornean species and those of nearby areas.
I began by looking at the holotype photo of Astathes bipartita Th. and then looking at A. perversa Gahan, which is currently a synonym of A. bipartita. A lateral view of these species clearly shows that these are not the same species. Even the elytra shows that one has more hair on it than the other.
I have long believed that this group has many undescribed species, but it also appears that there could be species which were inappropriately synonymized.
Also, some of the Astathini are quite rare, others have variation in the patterns or maculae on the elytra. In my opinion, the genus Bacchisa is even more troublesome than Tetraopthalmus (=Astathes). |

I agree. T. perversa has a longer body also.

Yes, but I wonder what is a true T. levis? I have different morpha from Philippines and it is still unclear for me... |

Xavier, Did I share with you some Astathini photos (mostly Bornean) from Dr. Saito in Japan? I do not remember if I emailed them to you. Among the Japanese entomologists, she has the most interest in this group and would certainly appreciate your photographs of the Paris holotypes.
For T. levis, and other Philippine species, I can not offer any advice. Populations on every island are continuously evolving. |

Yes, you dit it. But you can send me again her mail adress because I am more and more interested by Astathini, and I have more informations to share with her.

Excellent Xavier, thank you for the efforts.
I would like to see these images but I am still prohibited from looking at them.
Is there a chance that restriction could be removed?
Thanks

Bonjour à tous, j’entre une nouvelle série de type du MNHN. Que penser vous de rentrer les localités et tribu pour faciliter les recherches ? |
