Bill! If you think the Aneflomorpha from Arizona are hard to identify, then multiply that difficulty by a factor of 100 and you have the same problem with Malaysian Demonax. The late Dr. Dauber identified my specimens and evidently had two names on many of the same species. Yes, when you get old your vision is one of the first things that fails, and I don't blame him. There are many similar species, and the variability between species has not been studied. Clytini are notoriously variable with the patterns on their elytra. This genus is very large, and some species are distinct, however most of these gray and black ones are not identifiable, at least by a photograph. |
