Dialeges pauper Pascoe, 1857 has been described from "Borneo" & "Malacca"

Dialeges pauperoides Holzschuh, 1984 has been described from "Malaysia, Kg. Sahom ; Taiping ; Cameron Highlands"

Both species have the same range, which is not helpful.

In this post, Francesco tell us, by reading Holzschuh description, that the differences between the 2 species are really unclear.

- For some people, it is a matter of body size, but ...
- For some people, it is a matter of hairs on antennomera, but...
- For some people, it is a matter of pronotum sculpture, but...

Who is able to confirm or affirm something for all subsequent post ?

Who is able to prove that 2 species exist, rather than one ?

In my opinion, this Beckey's photo is very helpful:

pauperoides (left) and pauper (right)
  • pauperoides shows more rounded pronotum and more uniform elytral pubescence.
Females show antennae shorter than body
    Body size: 28-44
  • pauper shows more squared pronotum and elytral pubescence making two sharp "squares" linked by a longitudinal dark strip
Females show antennae as long as body
    Body size: 14-37

Thank you ,
If it is ok for females (antennae shorter vs as long as), I do not see any strong difference in males for the shape of pronotun, neither for elytral pubescence.

Small update: I have just received a female of D. pauperoides (antennae as long as body, large postmedian black spot) from Sabah measuring 23 mm.

Thus, the updated sizes are:
  • pauperoides
    Body size: 23-44
  • pauper
    Body size: 14-37
