Here it is necessary to know if the mesosternum is vertically truncated anteriorly (1) or it is armed with a pointed tubercle (2).

Well: there are only two possibilities: T. politus Bates or T. elegans Dupont.
T. politus has antennae black with the last antennomeres yellow, T. elegans has antennae ringed (typical form) or completely black-brown (other subspecies).
Therefore, Trachyderes elegans elegans Dupont, 1836.

But does this mean that the photo on Berzak's site (here) is showing an other species? It really looks different ...

No, it is a very rough photo (probably deriving from a slide) but the species is the same.
