Kolbe 1894 described a species from Eastern Tanzania which he named Allostichus costulatus (Stettiner entomologische Zeitung 54) and alotted to Acanthocinini. It was quoted in Aurivillius' Coleopterorum Catalogus Pars 74 (1923), but there are no trace of it in Breunings Cat.Lam.du Monde nor in the Titan database. Happy if anybody could enlighten me on this mysterious taxon.
I had been wondering about this species for a long time, but over time I forgot and it's good to have a little reminder sometimes, so I just asked DR Jaeger at the Berlin Museum for the type, I'm waiting and we'll see what it is?
I've just had a reply from Dr J Willers at the Berlin Museum and this door is nowhere to be found, despite the research they've been able to carry out! It's also possible that this typus was part of a series of individuals already described by "I don't know who"? In any case, I think it will be difficult to find this taxon? In any case, it will remain a mystery for the time being!
I was unable to find anything about Allostichus costulatus Kolbe 1894. I checked all possible drawers without success. This species is a real mystery. (dixit J Willers)
