Abstract:

Coscinesthes salicis is a dangerous insect pest of some fast-growing and high-yielding forests tree species such as poplar (Populus) and willow (Salix). Biochemical analysis showed that the protein contents of the larvae and pupae of C. salicis were 43.95 and 40.14%, respectively, while the respective fat contents were 45.98 and 34.80%. There were 16 kinds of amino acids in the larvae and pupae of C. salicis, and 7 of them are important for human nutrition. Moreover, abundant contents of K, P, Mg, Fe, Cu, Ca, S, Zn and Mn were also found in the larvae and pupae. It is concluded that C. salicis is a very useful natural insect resource having great potential to be exploited.
