The NHM specimens of D.macilentus and D.ordinatus from Singapore are now available at

If you are exploring the rest of the Demonax species on this website, I think the one corresponding to D.tipularis might be wrong. It doesn't fit the original description.

1) specimen from Vietnam is not D. ordinatus Pascoe
2) series of seven specimens of Demonax kept in Honolulu determined as D. ordinatus belong neither to D. ordinatus nor the species showed by Xaurus.
3) however, this series does not include the specimen showed by Xavier (ie the photo from the book) - at the moment I cannot recall such specimen, may be it was placed in a different box

Ok thanks, looks really very similar, maybe anybody can provide the type picture of D. ordinatus from BMNH, we cannot be sure the picture in the Laos book is right, there are many errors.

Another possibility: Demonax ordinatus Pascoe, 1869 (from Singapur) .
Original description & Gressitt 's picture (Laos fauna, 1970).

Median band is straight, but first antennomera are also whitish... Length 14.5-18 mm fits.

The problem is that I have now 5 species from Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Singapour with similar pattern and size, but I still do not know what is a true D. macilentus. I need more material to compare aedeage for separating species. Some of them are surely new .

yes for sure the same group, I have a spm from Sabah in my coll (det. Cope) looks a bit different
Xavier Posted - 16/04/2016 : 14:43:09
It is like Demonax macilentus (Chevrolat, 1858) seen at MNHN.

Yes a very interesting, big sps, I can make the lateral view next week first.

Very interesting species, with a long pronotum. Could you make a lateral view?
I do not find it in any publication ...but let's search again...
