After the last revision of the genus Nemophas (Lambillionea 113/3, available here), Iothocera has become synonym of Nemophas.
Consequently, this species become:
Nemophas tomentosus (Buquet, 1859).
All your specimens has been mentioned in that article. |

J'ai moi aussi un couple d'Arfak, dont la femelle est identique à celle du post précédent de Gérard. Je ne crois pas utile d'en faire une photo. Le pygidium à aussi une encoche. |

Dear friends,
this topic has become too interesting and I moved it into the secret section.
I have just finished a paper about the genera Nemophas, Dolichoprosopus and Iothocera basing on genital and other sexual carachters.
Several species will be moved from Nemophas to Dolichoprospus and vice-versa, but Iothocera will become new synonym of Nemophas.
The incised pygidium is in fact typical of Nemophas, but the male genitals are very distinctive.
Thus, if you like send me some specimens (especially from Sulawesi, where there is a new species) in order to be mentioned in the paper, they are welcome.
Xaurus' beetle is probably a new species of Nemophas.
No other specimens are known.
Now, how do you prefer to act?

Here is a (bad) picture of a female from my coll. probably this spms belongs to J. tomentosa, female with an incision at the pygidium, this fact is also new for me.
Maybe, the colour is a variable character yellow to red and also the stripes on the pronotum are different in male and female. |

For me this spm belongs to Jothocera tomentosa (Buquet) but I have only 2 males, and the pygidium is without an incision. |

It was not easy to see because of the apical orange bristles, but the apex is like in your first photo, Francesco. |
