Here the difference according to Linsley (1962):
- genae bidentate, pronotum of male with polished facets distinct, frequently reunited posteriorly; punctuation distinct: dasytomus
- genae tridentate, pronotum of male with polished facets small, completely separated; punctuation fine: masticator
However, recent authors consider masticator a synonym of dasytomus; therefore, there are only the following subspecies: dasytomus (USA-Colombia); socorrensis (Revilla Gigedo Island, Mexico) and baiulus (Colombia-Bolivia).
In conclusion, both your specimens should belong to the same subspecies...  |

The genae of these two don't show any spectacular difference but are tridentate. According to your comments, they are typical dasystomus.
What a mess with these subspecies which come and go... |
