This interesting beetle belongs probably to Acanthocinini.
Size is 6.5 mm.
It has a very characteristic feature, three tubercles in pronotum sides, but I could not identify it to genus with Breuning's review for Africa. Layer stacking does not work in my program, so I selected the layer, in which these tubercles are seen most clearly. |

Regarde aussi du côté de Sophronica rufobasiantennalis ou S ruwenzorii Il est d'ailleurs fort probable qu'il s'agisse de ruwenzorii .....
De toutes manières c'est une des trois que je t'ai donné car il y a très peu de Sophronica de forme compacte (3 je crois ou peut être 4)...

I only have Breuning's revision of African Sophronica from 1958-1959.
Can anyone send me the description of Sophronica ruwenzorii Breuning, 1966 or the whole paper BREUNING Stephan, 1966. Lamiinae (Coleoptera Phytophagoidea) Exploration du Parc National Albert (2ème série) 18 (3): 15-45?

| A propos S exocentroides a été retranché au rang de morphe de rufobasiantennalis cela a été publié par Téocchi en 1990, donc lire plutôt rufobasiantennalis . |

A few words to explain the situation. This group of Sophronica species with compact habitus appeared to be difficult due to poor descriptions which are largely based on colour.
As Jérôme wrote, Sophronica exocentroides Breuning & Téocchi, 1973 is a synonym of Sophronica rufobasiantennalis Breuning, 1948. It seems that Jérôme votes for S. rufobasiantennalis, leaving some chance also to Sophronica ruwenzorii Breuning, 1966.
Because of black legs and antennae and long erected bristles of two colours, black and white, in my beetle, I suspect also Sophronica calceoides Lepesme & Breuning, 1952.
So, this might be one of these three species.

| Exactly this is one of three species ... Unfortunately it is imperative to see typus and maybe there would be surprises when you will have seen them ..... The only elements that distinguish are characters colorings other cheek + long or shorter etc etc are also subject to great variability. In my case I found among Exocentrus, Ramularius and even in Sophronica calceata. So your vision and your appreciation are good for me. |
