Compsocerus have antennal joints angulate apically with a short spine, starting from the 3rd. Here the joints are finer with a rounded apex and no spines or edges. In addition to this I only have seen C. violaceus with entirely orange antennae, not darkened like on my beetle. Other observation: the elytral surface is much more smooth and brillant in C. violaceus than on my specimen. This beetle has dense fine punctures giving it a vermiculate look.
