For that matter, you are probably right: holotype picture of Ostedes basilana Pic, 1944 (here) do not fit with Ostedes pauperata Pascoe, 1859 (HT BMNH Moluques, Aru), which is a species with longer elytra, with apex different.
I think that the synonymy O. basilana / O.pauperata is wrong.

Here is a better match. This is the type of O. griseoapicaloides Breuning, 1977 from MNHN.
[ Actually we should say: O. griseoapicalis Breuning, 1969 [ nec Pic, 1944 ] ]

I don't think the synonymy is correct if the illustrated specimen is O. basilana Pic. For that matter, the type of O. pauperata is stated as "Aru" and the type of basilana is Basilan (Philippines). I have seen many Ostedes from Sabah which I have identified as O. pauperata and they all quite similar.
The picture posted by Larry looks like another species I have from Sabah. I have a total of 5 or 6 species of Ostedes from Sabah (unidentified), as well as O. pauperata, O. variegata, and O. brunneovariegata.
I have not seen types of O. borneana, griseoapicaloides, or laterifusca.
O. pauperata may occur in many areas ( Aru, Philippines, Borneo)... I don't know. The genus has only been studied by Breuning, and I think there are possibly mistakes with his work, and possibly new species in Borneo. |

I think it is Ostedes pauperata Pascoe, 1859 by seeing the holotype picture from MNHN of Ostedes basilana Pic, 1944 which is a synonym. |
